Hon, what'dja do all day? A Day In the Life Story

630am Dax is awake. Get Dax out of the crib and drag him into bed for a few more zzz. We lay in bed Dax playing and us trying to sleep.

715 - throw on clothes, get Dax dressed, tell Matt bye, strap Dax in jogging stroller, shoes on and

745 out the door. I'm trying to be more diligent on the exercise thing as I'm carrying quite a few extra pounds and its been nearly a year!

853 back home. Dax has been asleep 5 minutes. I jump in the shower and leave him in the stroller to sleep. I get the conditioner in my hair and hear Dax's cry. Quickly rinse the hair, wash my body and

859 jump out to get Dax. Dax needs breakfast. Put cheerios, apples and cantaloupe on his tray. Dax wipes them all to the floor - he needs my attention and something else to eat. I pull out the apple sauce and a few cherries. Mix the apples in the sauce and spoon them to Dax. Much more receptive. (actual apples are new for us - so the sauce if familiar.) Try to push the cantaloupe which only has a few days left, no interest. Remember the cherries. Dax gets a graham cracker so I can cut the cherries. Add the cherries to the sauce/apple mix. Some success. A little oatmeal cereal to top it off.

927 Remove Dax's cherry covered shirt and wipe down his face & hands. Consider makeup or hair - an either/or situation at this point. Dry hair, plug in curlers in hope of time. Turn on Baby Einstein. Do makeup and finish drying hair.

942 Forgo the curlers and throw hair in ponytail. Pick an outfit for Dax, a little wrinkled, but will have to do. Have to find pants since I didn't get to shave legs today. Throw on clothes. Go back for different shoes while Dax plays with keys. Fill the wipes travel pack. Find Dax's cup and a toy for the car. Check directions to playgroup.

950 In the car. Listen to our Music Together CD while we drive. Forget the street to turn and try to think of it the whole drive. Think I was caught by a fellow play grouper while jammin to children's music.

1005 Arrive to playgroup. My child won't sit with the their children, so I chase him into another room most of playgroup. Try to nurse a tired and getting cranky Dax. Too many distractions.

1140 Back in the car. I know there is a Starbucks on the way home, finally I can get something in my stomach besides water. (Yes a mocha counts as a meal). Run into starbucks with Dax. Harolds across the way is having a sale, need to look for pants for Matt. Buy a shirt instead.

1217 Back in the car. Dax falls asleep. A few minutes later he's awake laughing and wiggling in the back seat as one of his favorite songs has come up on the CD. When the song is over, he falls back to sleep. I debate whether I could drive to the other harolds to check for a shirt that I wanted for my dad's birthday that was the wrong size at the other harolds. Since Dax fell back asleep, I decide I could make the drive. Call my Dad to wish him happy birthday while I drive.

1230 At the mall. Transfer sleeping Dax to stroller. Stop by the shoe dept for a balloon. No luck on the shirt. Dax wakes and spies balloon. Retie balloon string short. Dax plays in stroller. Head to leave and see Puppet Theatre. 1:00 show. Check the time, 1:20.

134 Head home for lunch. Dax is crying. Hand him goldfish one by one as I drive. Matt calls to see what we're doing. Nothing, just went to playgroup, heading home for lunch. Mentally picture our fridge.

157 Decide to pick up lunch for both me and Dax. Spend 5 minutes trying to get them to tell me if they use frozen or fresh veggies b/c I want to order extra to freeze.

212 Walk in the door. Sit down to eat our lunch on the couch. Consider the repercussions of teaching my child to eat on a couch rather than at a table due to conversation I had yesterday. Too tired, feed him while sitting on the couch and trying to eat my lunch too.

248 A sweet friend hadn't talked to in a month calls. Entertain Dax in his room while talking for an hour. Catch up and among other baby stuff, inquire of normal speech development for Dax's age.

349 Play with Dax and mentally note the things I need to do to help him develop his speech. We play undivided attention 'til

445 Dax is getting cranky. Nurse and try to get to sleep. No luck. Finally rock to sleep. Check email and blog. Matt calls to say he'll be really late. Dax has been sleeping in my arms for over 2 hours now. Maybe he misses sleeping next to me. He usually doesn't take 2 hour plus naps. But, its so sweet, I know I need to wake him soon.

650 Dax nurses and wakes. We play for a little while. Daddy won't be home 'til after he's in bed, so I try to do all the jostling and jumping and all that fun stuff Matt usually does with him.

720 Dinner is overdue. Pull out the leftover apples and cherries from breakfast to start. He finishes the last few carrots. I try those dreaded green beens again. I give up and dump them in the trash. The one he was playing with all of a sudden becomes of interest - and he eats the whole bean - oh well. We share some creamed spinach while making faces in kitchen mirror.

753 Do dishes in one hand while holding Dax in the other. Go to his room for playtime. Read lots of books together and play with his toys. Call Matt to see how much longer he'll be.

920 Dread putting Dax in his crib without Matt here. Im dying to go pick him out of his crib. I can't take the crying. My friend calls to see invite me to an event tomorrow night. It sounded super fun, but I've got obligations. Can't do it

949 Matts not here and Im really weak. Dax ends up in my lap in the rocking chair. Whose in control here - not me! So much for consistency.

1045 I think he's out. Maybe he won't wake if I try the crib.?? . Success! Throw in a load of laundry while I run bath water.

1052 Get a bath and shave the legs I didnt get to this morning.

1137 Check email and complete blog. Remember to take prenatal for my postnatal baby and in bed. Start again in the morning.

My View from the driver's seat

There are few things as endearing as a child learning to read.
I'm so proud to glance back and catch my baby turning the pages of his book

I've traumatized my child! - We've reclaimed our bed!

After an hour of rocking and nursing I left Dax alone in his crib to go to sleep. He wailed for 43 minutes while I simply ignored his sad pathetic cry. Okay, I was balling too. But mine was a quiet muttled wimper as my sweet baby screamed for me. So at 1043 last night Dax fell asleep in his own bed 'til 430 am.
Night 2 of Dax in the crib. Tonight I didn't count the minutes it took him to stop crying, but it was less than an hour. Okay - Dax is sleeping, but mommy isn't. I'm really excited to have Dax in his own bed, but it's sad too. He stirred a couple times during the night and I didn't get him - 8 hours in the crib tonight. Woohoo!
Night 3 - Dax cried for 6 minutes then gave up. He made it 6 hours in his crib. Shorter than the previous night. We're moving in the wrong direction!
Night 4 - just under 10 minutes of crying and 9 hours in the crib. Dax seems to have had a good nights rest. We has been up and wired since 630! I guess my sleeping in 'til 9 days are over:(
Night 5 - I failed! I put Dax in bed, but I could bear(sp?) the crying alone and Matt wasn't here. So I went in and picked him up. The good news is that when I put him in his crib, he did NOT wake up - an absolute miracle!

I don't have to swallow it.

Dax has just figured out that if he sticks out his tongue, the food falls off -mostly. Fortunately we've had 4 months of whatever I actually manage to get in the mouth makes it to the stomache. No More!
